The Blood-Brain Barrier
The Blood-Brain Barrier is such an interesting topic to learn about. This so called barrier does a lot for our brain. It keeps out good chemicals we need for our body but it also keeps out bad ones. The blood-brain barrier keeps out a lot of different medications which makes it hard for treatment but according to this article researchers are finding a new way to let medications in. Basically, researchers are using a compound called NECA to activate molecules in the barrier and open it up. The only problem with this is the barrier is only open for a period of time so it is important for these researchers to figure out how to keep the barrier open. If this research works, it will open many opportunities to finding a treatment to different diseases. Alzheimers, different cancers, HIV, and many others may finally have a treatment that would actually get to your brain.

quit interesting your what you put about the blood-brain barrier also there are factors that lead to its deterioration. but there are also factors we can do in order to repair the blood-brain barrier.

While your blog was more focused on the new improvements for the Blood Brain Barrier I was more focused on how it was discovered. I was looking at the past to understand it better and you looked toward the future. I enjoyed the video you included in your blog it was fascinating to see how the BBB is actually studied. I also thought it was good that your video included stuff from the past module (animal testing).
ReplyDeleteI have seen many blogs with the same topic and I understand why. it is an interesting topic to study. Before knowing all this I did not understand or never asked myself why we haven't made much progress with Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease. Hopefully scientists will find a way to get some types of antibodies into the brain to treat these diseases. Oh, and great video.
